Yummy Cubes

By Toy, 31 August 2010

** Olivia Ong’s rendition of L.O.V.E. playing in the background ** The very same the theme song for Darren and Irene’s pre-wedding slide show. Yup, the highly classified pre-wed collectionz until their big day.

It has been awhile since I last posted anything edible. So I thought of keeping the foodie images up to date with two posts from Cubes Restaurant. Sounds western but in fact a Chinese cuisine dining haven. Another great place to hang out with friends for a nite out where the captain (of the restaurant) played a great host. This was the very same nite where I received Captured by the light book as a big day gift. Nice…

Peking duck has always been my favourite since I tried it during a road trip to Sydney followed by a Beijing. And now it’s easily found here.

à la French fine dining - Aromatic (Peking) Duck

Cubes served up some pretty good Chinese fare including the soft shell crab below…

The crispy crustacean just melts in your mouth

With great company and good food, nothing else matters. Cubes did not dissappoint.

Tech info: Shot under hanging lamp. Not the best light as it was pretty harsh, but good enough to see my food :) Aperture priority with tweaking done in LR and CS for finishing.

Darren + Irene = Chapter 1.1

By Toy, 22 August 2010

Chapter 1.1 – the prelude to pre-wed shoot of Daren and Irene.

I had the opportunity to do a pre-wed shoot for Irene and her hubby Darren. She’s a bubbly looker and he’s a budding photography enthusiast. Cool couple, and defintely fun to shoot !

The concept was pretty simple, we would do some indoor, more outdoor with plenty of greens (must be a gal thing as Irene wanted it so much)… And nite outdoor, now this is interesting. Reason ? It’s alot more cooling for Darren. Irene is so thoughtful !

Let’s get moving…

Once a “wiseman” told me that female-kind is the living transformer. Not cyborg. But living and breathing human-transformer. How so? Just look at the various ladies’ beauty product out there claiming that will turn nite into day and ordinary lass into princess. Not like Irene need any but only to make her ever more stunning.

Worth the waiting...

Darren just gotta wait patiently while the transformation in progress…

The big man

Although the plan was for Darren and Irene to check into Shangri-La Putrajaya for a nite but the suitcase was enough for a 10 day europe tour ! Turned out she brought 3 big shiny dresses for the shoot :)

Choices choices choices...

Always love a close up on a happy woman. My top pick of the day.

Who wouldn't wanna marry her

Darren, you are the luckiest man that I ever shot. The pix below is a clear testament.

Like I said, who wouldn't wanna marry her !

The exchange of rings kick start of a romantic pre-wed shoot for Darren and Irene…

Exchanging love

I enjoyed the collection so much that I am releasing it over 3 parts. Chapter 1.2 and 1.3 coming up soon right after their big day to keep the element of surprise.

Tech info: The images are mainly shot with the legendary Nikkor’s 85mm f/1.4. And it was creamilicious (if that’s English). Natural window lights and processed via LR.

Facebook-ing

By Toy, 10 August 2010

Everyone is on Facebook (FB). And many assumed “facebooking” is an English word. So, if you have not heard of fb, you are so not-in!

Hence, it is about time this blog is extended to a new d Studio 10 FB of its own. For greater online presence of sort. d Studio 10 ventured into FB as an avenue to share beautiful moment with all after much encouragement from many.

The FB site will feature images shot recently or in the past.

A tale of 4 cities – Sibu

By Toy, 7 August 2010

… and finally, my last stop; Sibu.

Quaint little town. Apart from the occasional 3G signal on my phone, Sibu was very much a cowboy town. With very little expectation (which is good), and I enjoyed it !

Sibu is still very much virgin as there isn’t many tourist in the town. Heck, there isn’t many tourist activities / spots. Nevertheless, it has its charm. And the followings shots summarised what is Sibu.

Here is a bird view of the busy district near Central Market and the famous Sarawak river Rejang.

Past and present at the same time

If “kon-lo mee” signify Sarawak, Sibu town’s “kong-pia” is its trademark. Served in two variety, savoury or sweet. Best eaten with a local “kopi” (coffee).

From start to ready to eat..

The nite market which was listed as an attraction was unfortunately over hyped in my view. Ain’t much stores nor choice of food. And many selling similar foodstuff such as these “dim sum”.

A common sight in the local nite market

Central Market was the place for much of the actions. It was huge with hundreds of stores selling from vege, to meat to livestock. Highly recommended.

Market place that is filled with characters

Live chicken sold in paper-wrap seemed convenient. Only in Sibu !

Chicks to go

The cineplex next to my hotel boast latest movie selection in modern comfort with digital sound system and even 3-D. How about that. However the tix system was very much manual (pen and paper). Cheapest movie slot was merely RM7.

RM7 tix for a 2010 movie, is that cool or what

Jade Dragon is a new temple just out of Sibu, 25min drive. Completed earlier this year. The place was huge, biggest in the region. I wish I could come again to capture the temple. I arrived at 3pm and it was just too hot. So my apology for the lack of pix.

It is all in the detail - Jade Dragon Temple

However I was blessed with a nice sunset when I visited the old temple in the city. Well kept and I must say the temple caretaker were really nice folks. They even invited me to visit their locked pagoda to get a better view.

Magnificent!

A pano shot of the temple

Sibu ain’t much and ain’t as popular as the other cities. Life here were pretty simple and uncongested. 3 days in this town may seemed a lifetime for many, but it was a relaxing 3 days for me. Come with an open mind.

Judging by the number of shots posted, Sibu is definitely a hidden gem.

It did looked like a romantic place

This conclude my Tale of 4 Cities. Tiring yes. Happy, uber happy !

Till next trip…

Technical : Same old, all shots handheld and processed with LR. Used CS for some creative effects (1st shot).
